Christel has practiced in the “city-building” industry for over 15 years. Christel established her own law firm in 2018 with Ian Mathany to focus primarily on transit building, land use planning and property litigation in the Province of Ontario.
The creation of a robust regional transit system – which connects seamlessly with local transit – is critical to the development of communities throughout Ontario. Christel’s focus over the last decade has been to assist with critical transit planning across the Province.
Christel’s work on the development of transit infrastructure has resulted in her being recognized as a “Best Lawyer in Canada” in multiple categories, including expropriation, municipal, and real estate law.
Christel is an active member of the litigation bar, with extensive experience before all levels of Ontario Courts, as well as before arbitration panels, the Ontario Land Tribunal, and other administrative boards. Christel’s clients range from single residential property owners to large municipalities and governmental authorities. Christel’s wide-ranging litigation experience enables her to provide clients with practical, cost-effective advice. She is persistent and persuasive and will work tirelessly to achieve the best result.
Of utmost importance to Christel is her mentorship of diverse, young lawyers and professionals in the real estate and land use development industry.
Christel was called to the bar in 2007. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, Ontario Expropriation Association and the International Right of Way Association.
